For more than 40 years, Mr. Repace has contributed to the field of science, calling upon his expertise and proficiency in physics. His career started out after earning a BSC in physics from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn (now NYU Tandon). He continued at the institution to receive a MSc in 1968. While matriculating with the bachelor’s degree, he became a senior laboratory technician at the Radioisotope Laboratory of Grasslands Hospital in Westchester, NY. He continued his work as a junior physicist for the New York City Department of Hospitals. While earning the master’s degree, he became a research associate at PCA’s David Sarnoff Research Center. Upon graduating, he accepted a research physicist position at the US Naval Research Laboratory. While working here, Mr. Repace attended the University of Maryland for postgraduate work. He continued his work in the US Naval Research Laboratory, switching from the Ocean Studies Division to the Electronics Division in the1970s.
From 1979 to 1986, Mr. Repace worked as a policy analyst for the US Environmental Protection Agency, providing his robust skills as part of the staff of the Assistant Administrator for Air and Radiation. He continued working for the EPA in different capacities, moving to a senior policy analyst position for the agency’s Indoor Air Division and then working in the Exposure Analysis Branch until 1995. Between 1994 and 1995, Mr. Repace worked on loan as a policy analyst for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration of the US Department of Labor. He retired from EPA in 1998, opening up the opportunity for his to become President of Repace Associates, Inc., a secondhand smoke consulting firm. His international consulting services include: lectures on passive smoking, courses on secondhand smoke science and policy, press conferences, media interviews, public hearing testimony, and litigation support in the form of expert testimony.
Throughout his career, Mr. Repace has maintained affiliation with a variety of organizations that have aided in his professional development. Since 2003, he has been a part of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers. Since 2002, Mr. Repace has been affiliated with the International Society of Indoor Air Quality and Climate. These memberships join his involvement with the International Society for Exposure Science, which he has been affiliated with since 1997, and with the American Public Health Association, which he has been affiliated with since 1996. Mr. Repace has previously been involved with the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Air Pollution Control Association and the American Physical Society. He has been recognized with many awards, including the Constance L. Mehlman Award from the International Society of Exposure Science and the Maryland GASP President’s Award for International Control Efforts. Mr. Repace has authored a new book, to be published in 2018, “ENEMY No.1 Waging The War On Secondhand Smoke.”
