Delwood C. Collins, PhD, Retired Biomedical Researcher and Retired University Administrator, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in biomedical research and university administration.

A widely regarded contributor in the scientific community, Dr. Collins is renowned for achievements in biomedical research over 50 years. He has been credited with the development of methods for measuring various estrogens and androgens, as well as the discovery of inhibitors of angiogenesis. Dr. Collins previously served as an associate vice president for research and graduate studies at the University of Kentucky from 2002 until his retirement in 2007.

Dr. Collins began his career by receiving a Bachelor of Science in biology from Emory University in 1959. He went on to attend the University of Georgia, where he completed a Master of Science in zoology in 1963 and a PhD in physiology in 1966. Upon completing a postdoctoral fellowship in biochemistry with the National Institutes of Health, Dr. Collins launched a career as a research scientist with the Endocrinology Section of the Department of National Health and Welfare. He joined the University of Kentucky as a professor of biochemistry and vice chancellor for research and graduate studies in 1991, eventually rising to the rank of associate vice president for research and graduate studies in 2002.

A respected voice in the field, Dr. Collins has served as a reviewer for a variety of industry publications, including Steroids, Endocrinology, the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, and the American Journal of Physiology. He maintains involvement with a wide range of industry organizations, including the American Physiological Society, the American Chemical Society, the American Society of Andrology, and the International Society for the Study of Reproduction.

As a former educator, Dr. Collins takes the greatest pride in seeing students succeed. His former students often thank him for his guidance after they have started their own careers. In recognition of his wide range of career achievements, as well as his inquisitive mind, Dr. Collins has been featured in several honors publications, including Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and Who’s Who in Science and Engineering. He was most recently selected to receive the Worldwide Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017.
