Andrew George Gordus, Toxicologist at the California Department of Fish and Game, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in toxicology and environmental health.
With nearly 40 years of professional excellence in toxicology, water quality, food safety, and environmental health, Dr. Gordus has served as an ecotoxicologist and biologist with the California Department of Fish and Game since 2000. In this position, he specializes in the exposure and analysis of poisons in water bodies, wildlife, and the environment. Notably, he was among the first scientists in California to raise awareness of toxicants resulting from illegal marijuana growth.
Prior to his current role, Dr. Gordus was an ecotoxicologist and wildlife biologist with H.T. Harvey & Associates from 1993 to 2000 and a staff research associate at the University of California, Davis, from 1990 to 1993. He earned a bachelor’s degree in wildlife management in 1980 and a master’s degree in natural resources management in 1985 from Humboldt State University. He subsequently earned a doctorate in comparative pathology from the School of Medicine at the University of California, Davis, in 1992.
An accomplished author, Dr. Gordus has contributed to such publications as the Professional Journal of Wildlife Diseases, the Journal of Wildlife Management, California Fish and Game. and Applied and Environmental Microbiology. Alongside his primary endeavors, Dr. Gordus also maintains affiliation with the Wildlife Disease Association and the Northern California Society for Environmental Toxicologists and Chemists.
In recognition of his exceptional accomplishments, Dr. Gordus has been honored with numerous accolades. In 2015, he was presented with the Employee Excellence Award and Kimberly Nicol Leadership Award by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. In addition, he was given the Directors Achievement Award in 2010, as well as the Gold Award for Superior Accomplishment in 2009. The proud father of three children, Dr. Gordus enjoys hunting and fishing in his spare time.
