Gordon Crippen, Consultant for the Chemical Computing Group Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in chemistry.
Since 1998, Dr. Crippen has provided his expertise as a consultant, bringing more than 50 years of experience in the field. He previously taught at the University of Michigan, Texas A&M University, the University of California, San Francisco and he held a variety of positions with several pharmaceutical companies. He has consulted for such companies as Chevron Phillips Chemical Company, Eastman Kodak Company, Synergix, DuPont and Amgen Inc. In addition, Dr. Crippen taught for two years at the Gymnasium Klosterschule, a school in the Hamburg college-bound secondary school system. In 1988, Dr. Crippen published “Distance Geometry and Molecular Conformation.” He previously published “Distance Geometry and Conformational Calculations” in 1981. Additionally, Dr. Crippen has contributed to numerous book chapters, professional journals, articles, and conference proceedings.
Growing up, science had always drawn Dr. Crippen’s interest. He pursued the field in his collegiate years, earning a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from the University of Washington in 1967. He then earned a PhD in biophysical chemistry from Cornell University in 1971, concluding his studies with postdoctoral work at the Cardiovascular Research Institute at the University of California, San Francisco.
For his work, Dr. Crippen has been recognized throughout his career. He received research funding from the National Institutes of Health, and additional grants from the National Science Foundation, the National Resource for Computation in Chemistry, and the University of California. In addition, Dr. Crippen is the recipient of the Fulbright Senior Scholarship at Monash University, La Trobe University.
