Joseph M. Roop, PhD, Retired Economist at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in energy economics.
With nearly 40 years of experience in the field, Dr. Roop is a retired economist who focused his attention on the use of energy in the industry. Most recently serving as an adjunct professor in the department of economics at Washington State University from 1999 until his retirement in 2011, he formerly worked as a member of the International Energy Agency in Paris, France, from 1990 to 1991, as a staff scientist and economist at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory from 1981 to 2011, as a senior economist at Evans Economics, Inc., from 1979 to 1981, and as an economist with the Economic Research Service at the U.S. Department of Agriculture from 1975 to 1979.
To prepare for his career, Dr. Roop pursued a formal education and received a Bachelor of Science from Central Missouri University in 1963. After being enlisted in the U.S. Army for two years, he returned to his education and earned a Doctor of Philosophy from Washington State University in 1973. He credits his success to his undergraduate professor of economics, Professor Joseph Dolecki, who challenged him in a way which Dr. Roop had never been challenged before, and Millary Hastay, who provided Dr. Roop with the tools he needed to thrive.
Dr. Roop maintains affiliation with several industry-related organizations in his field, including the American Economic Association, the Econometric Society, the International Association for Energy Economics, the American Statistical Association, and the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association. In addition, he has authored and coauthored several articles in esteemed journals, including “Simulating the dynamic coupling of market and physical system operations,” which was presented at the Power and Energy Society General Meeting of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers in 2004. He most recently authored the book “The Maryland Descendants of Christian Rupp, 1732-1810” in 2014.
In recognition of his exceptional accomplishments, Dr. Roop has been selected for inclusion in several editions of Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the West, Who’s Who in the World, and Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America. Looking toward the future, he aspires to publish more genealogies and memoirs of his grandchildren.
