John B. Barr, Consultant and Chemist, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in chemistry.

Interested in science all his life, Mr. Barr continues to contribute to the advancement of the field. He currently parlays more than five decades of experience into his position as a consultant in the carbon fiber industry, which he’s held since 2002. Prior roles include consultant with Research Opportunities, Inc., associate research scientist and senior research for Amoco Performance Products Inc., research chemist for Coning Inc., and senior research scientist and senior research chemist for the Union Carbide Corporation. His main focus was carbon fibers. Over the years, he used his knowledge to contribute articles to journals and to obtain patents used in the industrial process.

Mr. Barr prepared for his endeavors by earning a PhD from The Pennsylvania State University in 1961, a Master of Science from the University of Michigan in 1956, and a Bachelor of Arts from the University at Buffalo in 1954. To connect with his peers, he joined prominent professional organizations like the North American Thermal Analysis Society, the American Carbon Society, the American Chemical Society, Pi Lambda Upsilon, and Sigma Xi.

As a testament to his hard work and dedication, Mr. Barr earned an award from the American Chemical Society in 2003 and was selected as a Shell Oil Company Fellow in 1959. He was also included in numerous editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the Midwest, and Who’s Who in the World. Looking forward, Mr. Barr hopes to be remembered as a considerate, loyal, and active person.
