Ivar Holmefjord, PhD, Director of Green Salmon Ltd. and teacher of Aquaculture at College Susar, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in aquaculture.
With more than 35 years of professional experience, Dr. Holmefjord has been a teacher of aquaculture at College Susar since 2013, and the director of Green Salmon Ltd. since 2014. Prior to obtaining his current roles, he was the director of Real Seafood Ltd. from 2000 to 2013. From 1998 to 2000, he was head of the Mariculture Division at the Institute of Aquaculture Research, where he previously served as a scientist from 1991 to 1998, a research fellow from 1987 to 1990, and a research assistant from 1984 to 1987. Earlier in his career, Dr. Holmefjord was a fish farmer with Bolaks Ltd. from 1981 to 1983.
Dr. Holmefjord was inspired to pursue a career in the field by his father and his grandfather, who were both involved with the profession. He began his career as a sergeant in the Infantry Army of the Norwegian military, where he was a mortar specialist. He subsequently studied at the University of Bergen, obtaining a Candidatus Magisterii in 1984. He remained with the school to complete a Master of Science in 1986, and he returned to his studies to earn a PhD in 1996.
A respected voice in the field, Dr. Holmefjord has contributed numerous articles to professional journals. He has maintained affiliation with the Norwegian Association of Aquaculture, and he is a member of the working group on marine fish culture of the International Council Exploration of the Sea.
Dr. Holmefjord enjoys mountain walking and playing piano in his free time.
