John Sabin, ChD, professor emeritus of the University of Florida, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in physics.

With more than 50 years of professional experience, Dr. Sabin has been recognized as professor emeritus of the University of Florida since 2015, having been a professor of physics since 1977, and an associate professor since 1971. In addition to his work in the classroom, he was associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Science from 2005 to 2008, simultaneously serving the department as the director of information technology from 1998 to 2008. From 2006 to 2007 he was the associate interim associate dean for research, from 2005 to 2008 he was the interim director of the university writing program, and in 2002 he was interim chair of the Department of Physics.

Since 1992, Dr. Sabin has been an adjunct professor of physics for the University of Southern Denmark. He has been involved with the Quantum Theory Product, serving three stints as associate director, from 1977 to 1982, 1995 to 2001, and 2003 to 2007. From 1982 to 1983, he was a professor with the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics. Earlier in his career, he was an assistant professor in chemistry at the University of Missouri from 1968 to 1971.

Dr. Sabin was inspired to pursue a career in science at an early age, with his interest piqued by a science teacher in the fifth grade. He began his career as a student at the Loomis School, receiving a diploma in 1958. He continued his studies at William College, completing a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry in 1962. He subsequently joined the University of New Hampshire as a NSF Cooperative graduate fellow in 1964, simultaneously earning a Doctor of Chemistry in 1966. From 1966 to 1967, he held a National Institutes of Health postdoctoral fellowship with the Uppsala University Quantum Chemistry Group, and from 1967 he was a postdoctoral fellow with Northwestern University.

A respected voice in the field, Dr. Sabin has been involved with numerous professional organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. A fellow of the American Physical Society, he is also a member of the American Institute of Chemists, the American Chemical Society, the Danish Physical Society, and the Danish Chemical Society. He has served as an editor for Advances in Quantum Chemistry, a consultant editor for the International Journal of Quantum Chemistry, and a member of the editorial board of Croatica Chemica Acta and the Open Chemical Physics Journal.

Throughout his career, Dr. Sabin has been recognized for his contributions to the industry. He has been featured in multiple honors publications, including Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, and Who’s Who in the World. He considers the highlight of his career having been appointed as an adjunct professor to the University of Southern Denmark, and he is satisfied with his current status as professor emeritus, which he intends to use to pursue his own interests.
