Andrey N. Serebryany, DSc, Principal Scientist at the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in oceanology.
With more than 40 years of professional excellence to his credit, Dr. Serebryany has been the principal scientist and chief researcher of the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology with the Russian Academy of Sciences since 2016, as well as the department head of the N.N. Andreyev Acoustics Institute since 2015. Prior to these appointments, he served as the leading research scientist at the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology from 2015 to 2016 and senior research scientist at the Space Research Institute with the Russian Academy of Sciences from 2002 to 2017. Previously, he held numerous roles with the N.N. Andreyev Acoustics Institute, including head of laboratory, leading research scientist, senior research scientist, research scientist, junior researcher, and engineer between 1977 and 2015. Alongside his primary endeavors, Dr. Serebryany has been a guest investigator with the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution since 2010, a member of the scientific council with the Russian Academy of Sciences since 2005, the head of 16 marine expeditions since 2002, and a participant in marine and oceanic research cruises since 1971.
To prepare for his illustrious career, Dr. Serebryany pursued formal education at the National Research University of Electronic Technology in Moscow, Russia, receiving a Master of Science in engineering and physics in 1977. He subsequently earned a Doctor of Philosophy in physical and mathematical sciences from the Marine Hydrophysics Institute in Sevastopol, Russia, in 1988. After obtaining some hands-on experience in the field, he received a Doctor of Science in physical oceanography and acoustics from the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology in 2000. A prolific author, Dr. Serebryany has contributed myriad articles to professional journals and scientific papers to international conferences. Likewise, he is an inventor in the field in oceanographic instrumentation and a member of the editorial advisory boards of “Hydroacoustics” and “Archives of Acoustics.”
As a testament to his professional success, Dr. Serebryany has been a grantee of several organizations, including the Russian Foundation for Basic Research, the Taiwan-Russia Science Cooperation, the U.S. Civilian Research and Development Foundation, and the International Science Foundation. He additionally received an honorary diploma from the Russian Shipbuilding Agency in 2003. Dr. Serebryany was selected for inclusion in several editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Asia, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, and Who’s Who in the World.
