Ian Patrick Steer, Curator and Writer, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in astrophysics research.
Mr. Steer is a spirited writer and astrophysics researcher who applies the principles of science to explore the astronomical realm. Since 2006, he has contributed as a curator and team member for the NED, the NASA/IPAC extragalactic database that compiles information about galaxies beyond the Milky Way. Since 1999, he has contributed to the field as a writer and photojournalist on global security and nuclear issues. He has written concerning these topics to prestigious publications as the Scientific American, Popular Mechanics, the Toronto Star, as well as television and radio appearances. Mr. Steer has previously written and worked in the telecommunications industry.
In his line of work, Mr. Steer sees the value of contributing to the bigger picture. He views his role as just one worker in a pool of 3,000 astronomers who study galaxies beyond our own, with 12,000 in total. He has long been an advocate for astronomy, aviation and telecommunications as a member of the American Astronomical Society, the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, Canada’s Association of Competitive Telecommunications Supplies and various other organizations. Mr. Steer’s work has been acknowledged with such accolades as the 2012 Ostrander-Ramsay Award for Astronomical Writing.
