Walter Macdonald Sanders III, PhD, Environmental Consultant, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in environmental science.

With over 60 years of experience in environmental science, Dr. Sanders is a highly respected expert in the field, and has served as a consultant since 1985. Prior to this, he had served as Associate Director of Water Quality Research for the Environmental Research Laboratory of the EPA (1976-1985). He had also held the titles of Chief of the Freshwater Ecosystem Branch of the Environmental Research Laboratory (1964-1976), and Sanitation Engineering Officer for the U.S. Public Health Service (1956-1964). Dr. Sanders holds a BSCE from the Virginia Military Institute as well as a Master of Science and PhD from Johns Hopkins University.

Outside of his primary work and research, Dr. Sanders has always maintained an active role in his community. He has always taken it upon himself to be a leader. In addition to serving as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force, he was elected vice President of the Timothy Estates Association, and in 1970 he was elected President of the Alps Road Parent Teachers Association. He was also elected president of his local Rotary chapter, and for many years has served as district governor. He has been an Elder of the Friendship Presbyterian Church since 1966, and has served in the church in a number of other roles.
