Curtis Stanley, Presiden and Principal Hydrogeologist, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in hydrogeology.
Mr. Stanley became involved in his profession after being inspired by one of his professors, Dr. Henry Brown, who convinced him that geology would be a good and rewarding career. Fascinated by groundwater and the environment at an early age, he combined these interests become a hydrogeologist. This field was an emerging science at the time in the late 1970s, early 1980s. In 1979, he joined Shell Oil Company to work as the first hydrogeologist in the petroleum industry. In this role, which he served in until 2016, Mr. Stanley contributed his services as a fact witness and expert witness in various litigation matters for the company. Driven by a desire to make a difference in the world, Mr. Stanley found that he could achieve this by working at Shell, which provided him with a great platform.
In order to prepare for this line of work, Mr. Stanley first earned a Bachelor of Science in geology in 1979. He continued refining his skills with postgraduate coursework at the University of Wisconsin, the University of Waterloo and The Brookings Institution. In his career, he has been able to put to good use the skills and knowledge he has learned from these institutions, as well as his experiences of working in the field. The highlight of Mr. Stanley’s career was helping to develop the Risk-Based Corrective Action Standards through ASTM and developing related training materials and teaching related to the ensuing global training programs. With all of his contributions to the field, Mr. Stanley is considered an expert in groundwater contamination and resources.
Since 2016, Mr. Stanley has been the president and principal of Curt Stanley Consulting Group, LLC. His clients are provided for in his capable hands and backed by the comfort of his numerous certifications in the industry. Mr. Stanley is a Professional Geological Scientist with the American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG), a licensed geologist with the State of North Carolina and a professional geologist in hydrogeology with the State of Texas. He has also gathered his knowledge in several publications, including “Risk-Based Corrective Action Standards” with ASTM International and a variety of articles on hydrogeology. Looking toward the future, he endeavors to continue consulting on projects he finds stimulating while mentoring other professionals. He also hopes to make more time for traveling and exploring his hobbies of sporting clays, fly fishing and landscape photography.
