With more than 35 years of professional experience, Dr. Shanny was vice president and general manager with AT BAE Systems and president and CEO of Advanced Power Technologies, Inc. from 1986 to 2003. Prior to obtaining these roles, he was president of INESCO from 1977 to 1984, and he held a number of positions with the Naval Research Laboratory, including plasma physics director, branch head, and superintendent from 1971 to 1975, and research physicist from 1969 to 1970. Earlier in his career, he was a research physicist with General Electric from 1968 to 1969.
Dr. Shanny began his career as a student at Princeton University, earning a PhD. A respected voice in his areas of interest, he has been affiliated with a number of professional organizations. A fellow of the American Physics Society, he is a member of IEEE and the New York Academy of Sciences. While in graduate school, Dr. Shanny had a professor who made him fall in love with becoming a physicist. He was originally going to pursue an aerospace and mechanical engineering career until he met this professor.
Throughout his career, Dr. Shanny has been recognized for his contributions. He received an Executive Service Award from the Naval Research Laboratory. He has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in the World. A highlight of Dr. Shanny’s career is building teams that became recognized in the field for decades. Dr. Shanny is a recipient of the Executive Service Award from the Naval Research Laboratory in 1974.
