Manfred S. Kaminsky, PhD, Physicist for Surface Treatment Science International, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in physics.
An award-winning physicist known for his intrinsic professional drive and passion for science, Dr. Kaminsky has met with success throughout his illustrious six-decade career. Since 1986, he has been the sole proprietor of his own firm, which has allowed him to demonstrate his expertise in the way principles and concepts of physics are applied. His top skills were developed through a number of prominent roles in his career with the Argonne National Laboratory, where he worked for nearly 30 years. Notably, he was the director of the tribology program, director of the CTR program within the Surface Science Center, senior physicist, associate, assistant physicist, and research associate. Considered a leader in his field, Dr. Kaminsky was afforded the opportunity to work on industry projects. He was a member of the committee on tribology for the National Research Council, consultant for the Office of Technology Assessment, symposium chairman for the International Conference on Metallurgical Coatings, and E.W. Mueller Lecturer at the University of Wisconsin. To share his expertise with a wide range of professional communities in the scientific field, he published many texts, including “Atomic and Ionic Impact Phenomena on Metal Surfaces.” He co-edited “Dictionary of Terms for Vacuum Science and Technology,” as well as “Surface Effects in Controlled Fusion Devices.” In recognition of his professional excellence, he was distinguished as a science fellow by the Japanese Society. He also earned an Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, as well as numerous patents in the field.
Dr. Kaminsky became involved in his profession while studying to become a mathematician. He discovered that he was more interested in the application of mathematics in natural phenomenon, which prompted him to transfer his studies to applied mathematics and physics. He earned a PhD in physics from Philipps University of Marburg in Germany in 1957 after having already completed a number of academic programs. He achieved distinction as a First Diplomate in Physics and a German Research Society Fellow by the University of Rostock. To remain at the top of his field throughout his career, Dr. Kaminsky has been very involved with industry organizations. He was chairman of the fusion division of IUVSTA, co-founder of the Great Lakes chapter of AVS and fellow of the American Physical Society. Today, he holds membership with the American Chemical Society, the Scientific Research Society of America, the American Society for Research, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Union of German Physical Societies, Sigma Xi, the European Physical Society, and Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft. As he looks to the future, Dr. Kaminsky intends to continue in his tremendous work in the scientific field.
