Merrill Mitler, Professor at the University of California, San Diego, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in academia.
With nearly 50 years of professional experience, Dr. Mitler has been a professor at the University of California, San Diego since 1985, having been a professor at Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation since 1983. In addition to his primary roles, he was program director at the National Institutes of Health from 2002 to 2013 and he has been a principal in forensic examination. Earlier in his career, he was a research professor at the State University of New York, Stony Brook from 1978 to 1983, and a research associate and instructor at Stanford University from 1970 to 1978.
Dr. Mitler began his career as a student at the University of Wisconsin, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in psychology in 1967. He then joined Michigan State University, earning a Master of Arts in psychology in 1968 and a PhD in psychology in 1970. He continued his studies with Stanford University Medical School, completing a postdoctoral certification in 1973. Dr. Mitler is a licensed psychologist in the states of New York and California, and a diplomate of the American Board of Sleep Medicine and the American Board of Forensic Examiners.
