With more than 40 years of professional experience, Dr. Yates has been a clinical professor emeritus of the State University of New York and Roswell Park Cancer Institute since 2012. Prior to his retirement, he was national vice president of research for the American Cancer Society from 2002 to 2012, senior vice president of clinical affairs at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute from 1987 to 2001, and associate director of centers and community oncology at National Cancer Institute from 1982 to 1987. Earlier in his career, Dr. Yates was a professor of medicine at the University of Vermont from 1974 to 1982 and a research scientist at Roswell Park Cancer Institute from 1970 to 1974. Furthermore, Dr. Yates is presently on the faculty of the Epidemiology Department at the School of Public Health at the State University of Buffalo.
Dr. Yates began his career as a student at Lawrence University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in 1961. He continued his studies with the University of Illinois, completing a Doctor of Medicine in 1965. He later joined the Harvard School of Public Health, earning a Master of Public Health in 1981. Dr. Yates is a diplomate of the American College of Medical Executives and the National Board of Medical Examiners and a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Association for Cancer Research.
