Mirna Rivera-Claudio, professor at the University of Puerto Rico, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in research and education.
With more than 30 years of professional experience, Dr. Rivera-Claudio has been a professor of chemistry at the University of Puerto Rico since 1991. In addition to her primary role, she served as chair of the chemistry department at the school from 1997 to 1998. Earlier in her career, she was a research at the University of Texas, El Paso from 1988 to 1991 and the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign from 1987 to 1988. She considered a career highlight to be her time working at the University of Texas at El Paso because it provided her with many opportunities and the honor of acting as a mentor to students.
Dr. Rivera-Claudio became involved in her profession because she always enjoyed science and had an exceptional teacher in the eighth grade, Professor Hernandez. Dr. Rivera-Claudio always had curiosity and a desire to understand how things functioned, so she knew she wanted to study science. Dr. Rivera-Claudio began her career as a student at the University of Puerto Rico, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in chemistry in 1982. She continued her studies with he school, earning a PhD in chemistry in 1987. She is a member of the American Chemical Society.
Throughout her career, Dr. Rivera-Claudio has been recognized for her contributions, including having received an Excellence in Teaching Award. She has conducted research in organic and organometallic compound synthesis to evaluate anticancer properties, characterization of organic compounds and synthesis of anticancer chiral ferrocene acetals. Dr. Rivera-Claudio has been featured in numerous honors publications, Including Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers.
