Dedicated to learning and sharing the truth, Dr. Young has committed himself to his passion for scientific research and discovery. He earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Doctor of Philosophy from New York University in 1969 and 1973, respectively, before moving to California to work as a researcher for the University of California, Berkeley. He held this role from 1974 to 1976 before joining the research faculty at the University of Oregon, Eugene, from 1976 to 1982, subsequently working a computer engineer for Apple Computers for two years. In 1984, Dr. Young received fantastic offers from General Motors he could not turn down and he moved to Michigan from California, cementing his status as an automotive industry expert. He was General Motors Mobile lead in Driver Distraction and Driver Vision and used his knowledge of vision when working for General Motors to designs robots that have better vision for use in factories. Dr. Young’s applications changed from pure scientific research into industrial application that would ultimately benefit bottom line profits. Furthermore, his work saves human lives and he is proud to have met his goal of improving driving safety.

Dr. Young has developed invaluable technology that has paved the way for other researchers and scientists and is currently working on what he considers to be the most important project of his life. His forthcoming paper will be published in the American Journal of Science and is the first major study on the safety of automated vehicles that focuses on whether or not automated vehicles will be safer than human drivers. As a testament to his success, he holds membership with the Society of Automotive Engineers, the Optical Society of America the Society of Photo-optical Instrumentation Engineers and the Cognitive Neuroscience Society. Furthermore, Dr. Young has been featured in the 5th edition of Who’s Who in Science and Engineering and has been lauded with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award.
