Joan Louise Thalmann, environmental health scientist for the Bureau of Air Quality, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in environmental health.
An environmental health scientist with more than 45 years of experience, Ms. Thalmann is highly regarded for the outstanding work she has been performing for the Bureau of Air Quality in Salt Lake City, UT, since joining the team in 1984. She demonstrates an expertise in all areas of asbestos inspections and demolitions, inspection report reviews, contractor certifications, contract notifications, asbestos abatement, and asbestos worker certification. In addition to her work with the Bureau of Air Quality, Ms. Thalmann has been an instructor for the National Education Program on Asbestos and the Rocky Mountain Center for Occupation & Environmental Health since 1990.
Ms. Thalmann prepared for her career by first pursuing her education. She earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Utah in 1975 and a Master of Urban and Regional Planning from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1979. She has remained involved with her professional community through her memberships with the Utah Public Employees Association, the Local and National Asbestos Association, the National Association of Business & Professional Women, the National Wildlife Federation, the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance and the Wasatch Mountain Club. Considered an expert by industry peers, she has shared her insights through the publication of two books “Keep the Home Fires Burning” and “The Emission Inventory.” Driven by a passion for her field, Ms. Thalmann has been recognized for her work developing a wood burning brochure for the State of Utah. Looking ahead, Ms. Thalmann intends to continue in her work while seeking out opportunities to mentor and give back within her industry.
