Khosrow Shabestari, Research Scientist at AIR Worldwide, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in civil engineering and seismology.
Since 2003, Dr. Shabestari has contributed his skills and expertise as a principal research scientist for the risk modeling and data analytics company, AIR Worldwide. He previously provided his talents at the Earthquake Disaster Mitigation Research Center with the National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Prevention. Earlier in his career, he served in a postdoctoral fellowship with the University of Tokyo, as a research associate for the International Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Seismology in Iran and as a research assistance with the Istanbul Technology University. His achievements include being the first to time develop the JMA intensity attenuation equation for the Japan site application for the entire Japanese rapid generation of GM maps.
Dr. Shabestari set out on his interest in seismology and engineering at Istanbul Technology University, earning a BSc in geophysical engineering in 1989 and a Master of Science in seismology from the institution in 1993. He continued his studies at the University of Tokyo, whereupon in 199 he earned a PhD in civil engineering and engineering seismology. He maintains professional affiliation with the Seismological Society of Japan, the Japan Association for Earthquake Engineering, the Japan Society of Civil Engineering, the Seismological Society of America and the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute. From 1996 to 1999, Dr. Shabestari worked with the Monbusho Scholar Research Scholarship from the Japanese government.
