Dr. Nash became involved in his profession because he found the process of immunology very exciting. At the time that he was studying in college, the interest in the field featured a resurgence of importance, which had not been as important since the 1930s. With it on his radar, he first pursued the field by earning a Bachelor of Arts from the American International College in 1961. He continued at Boston College, receiving a Master of Science in 1963. Following this, Dr. Nash earned a PhD at the University of North Carolina in 1967. He continued at the institution as a postdoctoral fellow, and continued postdoctoral fellowship work at the University of Louvain in Belgium until 1970. In his career, Dr. Nash remained a passionate educator and researcher. He retired in 1999 after serving as the associate director for the Center of Pulmonary Infectious Disease Control at the University of Texas Health Science Center.

In addition to serving in this role, Dr. Nash taught at the University of Texas Health Science Center from 1992 to 1999. He previously served as the Director of the Hybridoma Core at the institution from 1985 to 1992 and taught as an associate professor from 1972 until 1992. Earlier in his career, Dr. Nash served as a senior research scientist at the World Health Organization in Switzerland and as an associate professor at the University of Hawai’i. Furthermore, he taught as an adjunct professor at the University of Texas.

The highlight of Dr. Nash’s career was sponsoring and developing the center for pulmonary infectious disease control. He was successful in influencing the University of Texas to open up this department to support physicians treating tuberculosis. Once opened, Dr. Nash and fellow scientists conducted research on it and also gave lectures to physicians and professionals around the state of Texas. While retired, Dr. Nash continues to support the field by writing and contributing to various publications. He has been featured in Who’s Who in Science and Engineering and Who’s Who in the South and Southwest.
