Eric J. Lien, Professor Emeritus at the University of Southern California School of Pharmacy, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of biomedicinal chemistry and science education.

Dr. Lien was always interested in mathematics, biological science and chemistry, and for that reason, he chose to professionally pursue his passion and earned a BS in pharmacy from the National Taiwan University in 1960. He then immigrated to the United States in 1963, earned a Ph.D. in pharmaceutical chemistry from the University of California San Francisco in 1966, and was a postdoctoral fellow in bioorganic chemistry at Pomona College in Claremont, California, from 1967 to 1968. Upon completing the fellowship, Dr. Lien assumed employment with the University of Southern California where he held myriad positions including associate professor of pharmaceutics and biomedicinal chemistry as well as coordinator of the biomedicinal chemistry, and pharmacies sections, among other roles. He has been affiliated with the institution since 1968 and has held professor emeritus status since 2003.

In addition to his main pursuits, Dr. Lien has served as a consultant for organizations including, but not limited to, the Arizona Disease Control Research Commission from 1986 to 2003 and the National Institutes of Health on multiple occasions. He has also peer-reviewed numerous academic journals such as the Journal on Pharmacokinetics and Biopharmaceutics, the Journal on Medicinal Chemistry and the Journal on Food Agriculture Chemistry, among others. Furthermore, Dr. Lien serves on the editorial boards of the Chinese Pharmaceutical Journal, Acta Pharmaceutical, and the International Journal on Oriental Medicine. As a testament to his success, Dr. Lien holds Fellowship/Membership with esteemed organizations such as the American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Association Cancer Research and the American Association Pharmaceutical Scientists.
