Richard Lawrence Tyndall, Founder and Chief Executive Officer at Microbial Monitoring, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientist for dedication, achievements, and leadership in microbiology.

Dr. Tyndall pursued his profession because he wanted to explore microbiology through scientific research. In preparation for his career, he attended Pennsylvania State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in microbiology in 1955 and a Master of Science in microbiology in 1959. Soon thereafter, he received a Doctor of Philosophy in microbiology from the renowned institution in 1961.

Consequently, he began his professional journey as a research staff member for the medical division of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory from 1961 to 1973, before accepting the same role with Oak Ridge Associated Universities for three years. Dr. Tyndall went on to become an associate professor of the research zoology department at the University of Tennessee, while serving as an adjunct research associate for the biology and environmental sciences division at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, from 1976 until 1987. During this time, he contributed as the co-founder of Reprotech Inc., in Knoxville, Tennessee, in 1981.

Moreover, Dr. Tyndall worked as a research staff member for the health and safety research division and became the founder and chief executive officer of Microbial Monitoring in Clinton, Tennessee, between 1985 and 2000. In addition to his primary endeavors, he was a consultant in the field. Civically, he served in the United States Army from 1955 until his honorable discharge in 1957. A highlight of Dr. Tyndall’s career was discovering acanthamoeba royreba and later naming it after his parents. He is also proud to have made a small contribution to Dr. Frederick Sanger’s Nobel Prize-winning work. A recipient of numerous accolades and honors, Dr. Tyndall has also been awarded several patents in the field. As a testament to his success, he has been featured in numerous editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, and Who’s Who in the World.
