Robert M. Flora, PhD, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in biochemistry.
Dr. Flora is an award-winning biochemist whose expertise in his field has afforded him many opportunities to impact his industry during his career. In total, he amassed 27 years of experience before retiring in 1991. His noteworthy roles include vice president of research and development for the biotechnology group at Pharmacia, Inc., a pharmaceutical company based in Piscataway, New Jersey. He served in this role for eight years and found success by demonstrating his top skills developed in his prior roles. Previously, Dr. Flora was the senior consultant scientist for Millipore Corporation, director of research and development and research scientist for the Worthington Biochemical Corporation, and research associate for the Vanderbilt School of Medicine. He also spent some time in academia as an assistant professor of chemistry at American University.
When asked about his professional success, Dr. Flora attributes his accomplishments to his blend of experience, education and true passion and interest in the scientific field. To prepare for a career in the sciences, he earned a Bachelor of Arts cum laude from Bridgewater College in 1960 and a PhD from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1965. He remained at the top of his field through his memberships and involvement with the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Chemical Society, the Industrial Biotechnology Association, Sigma Xi, Phi Kappa Phi, and Phi Lambda Upsilon. Looking ahead, Dr. Flora intends to enjoy his retirement while taking on passion projects in his field.
