Arthur Coates, President of Silver Farms Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Chemistry.
With nearly 70 years of professional experience, Mr. Coates has been the president of Silver Farms, Inc., since 1979, also serving as president of Swan Crest, LLC, and special assistant to the director of the US Army Ballistic Research Laboratory from 1978 to 1986. Prior to obtaining these roles, he was a technical assistant to the chief of the Terminal Ballistics Division from 1975 to 1978, having been chief of the methodology section since 1970 and chief of the radiation damage section since 1960. From 1955 to 1960, he garnered experience and skills as the chief of the ignition section, and from 1951 to 1955, he was a chemist and research chemist at the Aberdeen Proving Ground. Earlier in his career, Mr. Coates served as a practice engineer with Wheeling Steel Corporation from 1950 to 1951.
Mr. Coates first pursued an education with the College of Steubenville where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in chemistry in 1950. He then joined the United States Army, serving from 1951 to 1953. Upon his departure from the Army, he returned to his studies with the University of Delaware, earning a Master of Science in chemistry in 1961. A fellow of the American Institute of Chemists, he is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Chemical Society, the Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce, the Friends of the Harford County Public Library, and Sigma Xi.
