Jeffrey D. Colvin, PhD, visiting scientist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements and leadership in physics.
With 45 years of professional experience, Dr. Colvin has been a visiting scientist with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory since 2018, having been a staff physicist since 1994. Prior to obtaining these roles, he was a science advisor with the U.S. Department of Energy from 1990 to 1992 and a staff physicist with Los Alamos National Laboratory from 1983 to 1994. Earlier in his career, Dr. Colvin held a number of positions with EG&G, including the manager of physics from 1980 to 1983, section head from 1977 to 1980 and a senior scientist from 1975 to 1977.
Dr. Colvin first pursued an education with Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in physics in 1965. He then joined the University of New Mexico, completing a Master of Science in physics in 1968. He continued his studies with the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, earning a PhD in physics in 1974. Dr. Colvin subsequently served as a research associate with the University of Rochester from 1974 to 1975. He is a member of the American Astronomical Society, the American Physical Society and the Metals, Minerals and Materials Society.
