James Simon, PhD, Principal Anthropologist at Jim Simon Consulting Group, LLC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in anthropology.
With more than 30 years of professional experience, Dr. Simon has been the principal anthropologist at Jim Simon Consulting Group, LLC, since 2017. Prior to establishing his own firm, he was a regional supervisor for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game from 2002 to 2017 and an applied anthropologist with Tanana Chiefs Conference, Inc., from 1999 to 2002. In addition to his primary roles, he has served as an adjunct instructor with the University of Alaska Fairbanks since 2017, having held the same position in 2002 and 2011. From 1995 to 1998, he was an associate anthropologist and archaeologist with Northern Land Use Research, Inc., and he was an archeologist with the United States National Parks Service in 1990. Earlier in his career, he was an archeological technician and field supervisor with the Archeological and Historical Consultants, Inc., from 1987 to 1989.
Dr. Simon first pursued an education with Pennsylvania State University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in 1989. He then joined the University of Alaska Fairbanks, completing a Master of Arts in 1991. He continued his studies with the school, earning a PhD in 1998. He is a member of the Alaska Anthropological Association and a sustaining fellow of the Society for Applied Anthropology.
