Viraht Sahni, PhD, Physicist at Brooklyn College, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements and leadership in physics.
Proud of his contributions to further knowledge in physics, Dr. Sahni has been a professor of physics at Brooklyn College since 1981. He began his teaching career as an instructor of electrical engineering at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, in 1968, remaining in this position for two years before instructing physics at Brooklyn College from 1972 to 1974. There, he moved up the ranks to the roles of an assistant professor from 1974 to 1977, associate professor from 1978 to 1980 and Broeklundian Professor of Physics from 2001 to 2011. In preparation for his career, Dr. Sahni pursued a formal education at the Indian Institute of Technology, earning a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering in 1965. He then attended the New York University (NYU) Tandon School of Engineering, where he attained a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1968 and a PhD in physics in 1972.
A contributor of several chapters to books and articles to professional journals, Dr. Sahni wrote “Quantal Density Functional Theory” in 2004, “Quantal Density Functional Theory II: Approximation Methods and Applications” in 2010 and the second edition of “Quantal Density Functional Theory” in 2016. Affiliated with the American Physical Society and Sigma Xi, he is the recipient of the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. Additionally, Dr. Sahni was selected for inclusion in the fourth edition of Who’s Who in Science and Engineering.
