Steven R. Federman, PhD, Physicist, Researcher, and Professor Emeritus at the University of Toledo, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in atomic and molecular physics and astrophysics.

Years after completing an important research project for his doctoral program, Dr. Federman went on to serve as a professor at the University of Toledo since 1998. Prior to this role, he served the university as an assistant professor from 1988 to 1993 and associate professor from 1993 to 1998. He began his professional career as the senior research technician at Weill Cornell Medicine and the Hospital for Special Surgery in 1972, remaining in this position for three years before receiving two postdoctoral fellowships from New York University (NYU) in 1979 and the University of Texas at Austin from 1979 to 1982, also lecturing at the latter institution in 1983. He then served the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, as a National Research Council associate from 1983 to 1985 and a technical staff member from 1985 to 1988. Prior to starting his professional career, Dr. Federman pursued a formal education at the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, now known as the NYU Tandon School of Engineering, earning a Bachelor of Science in 1971. He then attended NYU, where he attained a Master of Science in 1976 and a PhD in 1979.

A contributor and editor for numerous professional journals over the years, Dr. Federman maintains involvement with several organizations related to his field. A fellow of the American Physical Society in 2002 and the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2017, he is the recipient of the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. Additionally, he was selected for inclusion in the first editions of Who’s Who in Science and Engineering and Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America, the 20th edition of Who’s Who in the West, the 24th edition of Who’s Who in the Midwest, and the 71st and 72nd editions of Who’s Who in America. In 2018, Dr. Federman became a Senior Member of the Optical Society of America. Dr. Federman attributes his success to a combination of hard work and his ability to solve interesting problems. Moving forward, he intends to continue conducting research and traveling for pleasure and research.
