Marija D. Ilic, DSc, Senior Research Scientist and Professor Emerita, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in engineering education and research.
Dr. Ilic pursued engineering because she felt it was a secure field, and she had a passion for the subject matter. Prior to coming to the United States in 1977, he earned a diploma in engineering from the University Belgrade in Yugoslavia. She proceeded to attend Washington University, earning a Master of Science and a Doctor of Science, both in system science and the latter in mathematics as well.
In 1981, Dr. Ilic began working as an assistant professor of electrical engineering at Drexel University. In the following years, she taught at several established universities, including Cornell University, the University of Illinois, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 2002, she was hired as a tenured professor at Carnegie Melon University. She demonstrated success in her role until 2016 when her efforts earned her the title of professor emerita, which is her current position. She additionally continues to explore science as a senior staff member of the MIT Lincoln Laboratory, as well as through her work as a senior research scientist for the MIT Laboratory for Information & Decision Systems.
In 2018, Dr. Ilic’s career achievements were honored by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers when they distinguished her as a life fellow. Likewise, she is featured in multiple editions of Who’s Who of American Women and the 21st edition of Who’s Who in the Midwest.
