Richard Edward Ernst, Chemist, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership.
Backed by a Bachelor of Arts from Grinnell College, Dr. Ernst attended the University of Wisconsin and earned a PhD. In the months following his graduation, he was hired as an industrial chemist and research fellow at DuPont Co. in Wilmington, Delaware. He remained there until his retirement in 2004, demonstrating consistent success every day. An active member of his industry, Dr. Ernst maintains affiliation with Phi Beta Kappa, Alpha Chi Sigma, Sigma Xi, and the American Chemical Society. In 2006, he became involved with Meals on Wheels. To stay active, he continues to work with the organization as a volunteer today. He additionally enjoys coaching youth sports and exploring astronomy.
Looking back on his successful career, Dr. Ernst believes he achieved so much because of how passionate he was about his work. Every day was rewarding, though he considers his experience starting a plant in Spain to be one of his greatest achievements. His advice to future chemists would be to prepare for constant change, as no job in chemistry is ever the same. In recognition of his numerous accomplishments, he is featured in multiple editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the East, and Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
