Mukund N. Desai, PhD, Retired Technical Staff Member at C.S. Draper Laboratory, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in mathematics.
Having an aptitude for mathematics for as long as he could remember, Dr. Desai consistently ranked at the top of his class throughout his schooling. With his educational dedication and skills in mathematics, he was determined to also pursue professional success in his future. In his native India, Dr. Desai received a Bachelor of Science in 1958 from Gujarat University and went on to earn a Bachelor of Engineering in 1961 and a Master of Engineering in 1963, both from the Indian Institute of Science. Upon his arrival to the U.S. in 1964, he achieved a Doctor of Philosophy from Harvard University in 1969. Throughout his career, Dr. Desai has worked hard but believes his love for learning inside and outside of the classroom had helped fuel his career success immensely.
In 1970, Dr. Desai joined the team at C.S. Draper Laboratory in Cambridge, Massachusetts as a distinguished technical staff member. Having accomplished various career achievements, Dr. Desai is renowned for his patents and his contributions of articles and chapters to numerous publications in the field of signal and image processing. Now retired, his advice to up and coming mathematicians and researchers is to keep working at what you find particularly interesting. This is the same advice his father, Natwerlal, offered him as his mentor, teacher and greatest supporter. To attest to his legacy, Dr. Desai can also be found in the 61st and 63rd editions of Who’s Who in America and the 11th edition of Who’s Who in Science and Engineering.
