Ronald Eric Hemingway, Retired Environmental Chemist and Consultant, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in environmental chemistry.

Backed by a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from The Citadel Military College of South Carolina, Dr. Hemingway began his career as a part-time member of the department of immunology within Clemson University. Having been interested in science for as long as he could remember, he took on a concurrent position as a teaching associate at the University of Texas as he pursued a Doctor of Philosophy in analytical chemistry at the institution. By 1974, Dr. Hemingway successfully acquired the degree and was thus hired as a research chemist at DuPont in Wilmington, Delaware. In the following years, he progressed within the company and took on several additional titles, including research manager, research director and research fellow. In 1997, after having secured himself as a well-respected professional in his field, Dr. Hemingway began working as an adjunct professor at the University of Delaware where he discovered a newfound passion for education. From 2000 until 2008, he served as a visiting professor at The Citadel, where he later became an assistant professor in the chemistry department.

Following decades of success, Dr. Hemingway retired in 2016, though he remains active as a consultant in environmental chemistry. In light of his myriad accomplishments, Dr. Hemingway has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors. Most recently, in 2012, he earned the C.A. Medberry Outstanding Teacher Award and he additionally holds the Algernon Sydney-Sullivan Award, which was presented to him in 1968. A veteran of the United States Army, Dr. Hemingway earned the Army Commendation Award in 1970 as a reflection of his success, which followed up his earlier title of Outstanding Officer and Graduate at Chemical Officer Basic Course. As a further testament to his success, Dr. Hemingway is featured in the fifth edition of Who’s Who in Science and Engineering.
