Steven M. Chamow, PhD, Biochemist and President at Chamow and Associates Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in biochemistry.
In his college years, Dr. Chamow discovered he enjoyed the concept of harnessing science for medicine, as he believed it to be a “magical” process. In 1975, he earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Santa Cruz and went on to obtain a Doctor of Philosophy in biochemistry from the University of California, Davis in 1984. He commenced his career with the National Institutes of Health in Maryland as a staff fellow and senior staff fellow from 1984 to 1987. Dr. Chamow then served Genentech Inc. in San Francisco as an associate scientist, scientist, and senior scientist between 1987 and 1998. For the subsequent 10 years, he served various companies in the San Francisco Valley in executive roles, including Scios Inc., Abgenix Inc., Genitope Corporation, and Intradigm Inc. Most recently in his career, from 2008 to 2020, Dr. Chamow was a biochemist and the president of Chamow and Associates Inc., a leading biopharmaceutical consulting company based in San Mateo.
A renowned scientist, Dr. Chamow is known for his patent for the design of heterobifunctional cross-linkers, which are reactive with carbohydrates, and his vast array of articles in technical literature. Additionally, he is the co-editor of, “Antibody Fusion Protein” from 1999 and “Therapeutic Fc-Fusion Protein” from 2014. Looking back on his career, Dr. Chamow is most proud of his involvement in a new drug development for HIV. He notably published the first paper that described the drug for clinical use and was published on the cover of Nature Magazine. To remain aware of advancements in his industry, Dr. Chamow maintains affiliation with the American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Protein Society. As a testament to his legacy, Dr. Chamow can also be found in the third edition of Who’s Who in Science and Engineering.
