H. Carl Gelhaus, PhD, President and Chief Executive Officer at Full Effect Biotech, Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in biology.
Dr. Gelhaus became involved in his profession because he made a discovery while doing some research that did not fit in with the company he was working for. It was one of those things that were so profound when he observed it that he realized something had to be done. The only route he could find was to start a company to pursue it. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in biology from the University of Cincinnati in 1998. He then received a Doctor of Philosophy in microbiology and immunology from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in 2004. From 2005 to 2008, he was a postdoctoral fellow with USAMRIID.
Dr. Gelhaus had the opportunity to go to Sierra Leone as part of the Ebola response and he operated a diagnostic laboratory there. He was proud of his team and the efforts they made to stop that outbreak. He has been involved in a couple of programs. One was a major consumer product that everyone sees in their grocery stores. They made some product claims on that, it really was impactful to him. Not the most scientifically impactful but the fact was his science was in grocery stores around the country. He felt really good about that. Dr. Gelhaus began his career in 2008 as a principal research scientist at Battelle, remaining until 2013. He then became a principal scientist from 2013 to 2017. Since 2011, he has been an adjunct assistant professor at Wright State University, an adjunct professor with Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences since 2015, and an adjunct professor with the University of Missouri-Kansas City since 2015. During that time, he has also been a senior program manager with MRIGlobal since 2017 and the president and chief executive officer with Full Effect Biotech, Inc. since 2018. As a testament to his success, Dr. Gelhaus has been inducted as a member of the American Society of Microbiology and was a founding member of the Tularemia Foundation.
