Title: Retired Chemist
Company: Public Health Department
Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States
Eusebio Coelho, Retired Chemist at the City of Philadelphia Department of Health, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in public health.
Born and raised in Mozambique, Mr. Coelho discovered his love for chemistry as a child. A naturally driven and precocious student, he dedicated himself to pursuing his dream of becoming a professional chemist, eventually relocating to the United States to continue his education. He attended Thomas Jefferson University, where he earned both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in chemistry.
In 1975, Mr. Coelho joined the City of Philadelphia Department of Public Health, where he would remain until his retirement in 2020. Driven by a desire to give back to others and improve society as a whole, he felt called to a career in public health, working first in hospital laboratory settings before specializing in environmental testing as a clinical chemist. Through much of his tenure with the City of Philadelphia, Mr. Coelho was responsible for lead testing and other metrics measured by the County. He attributes much of his success to the influence of professional mentors and the encouragement of family, and considers it an honor to have left a legacy of positive social change through his work. In his retirement, Mr. Coelho remains a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, and enjoys spending time with his two daughters.
