A native of India, Mr. Thakur initially earned a Bachelor of Technology in Electrical Engineering from Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology in 2017. Soon thereafter, he came to the United States, where he received a Master of Science in Computer Science with a specialization in Human Computer Interaction from the University of Cincinnati in 2019. Mr. Thakur is currently an Instructor and Research Fellow at the University of Cincinnati and is slated to graduate from the Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering degree program with the same specialization in 2022.
Mr. Thakur’s groundbreaking research that has earned him incredible fame, immense recognition, outstanding awards, and great repute from all over the world, aims at bringing about a revolution to the future of Smart Homes and Smart Cities, with a specific focus on healthy aging and independent living of the rapidly increasing global elderly population. His research has explored the intersections of Human-Computer Interaction, Data Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, Assistive Systems, Affective Computing, and their applications. He has authored 34 peer-reviewed publications in a combination of conference papers, journal publications, and invited book chapters. As a distinguished researcher in this field, he has delivered 26 keynote addresses and invited presentations in different international conferences in United States, Canada, China, Denmark, and Indonesia. The fact that his papers have been cited more than 150 times in the last 2 years underscores the immense global impact of his research. He has been associated with 27 international conferences as an organizing committee member. By serving as a reviewer for 30 conferences and almost as many journals, he has reviewed more than 360 papers. To add to the above, he has also completed more than 100 online certification courses related to emerging technologies in the above-mentioned fields.
He has received about $60,000 in research funding in the form of grants and fellowships. Nirmalya Thakur is a globally celebrated scholar in the field of Human-Computer Interaction and its interrelated disciplines and has received multiple awards and honors. Some of the recent ones include the Young Scientist of the Year Award at the 2nd International Business and Academic Excellence Awards, the Excellent Researcher Award at the 2nd International Academic and Research Excellence Awards, the Research Excellence Award from the Institute of Scholars, and the Young Innovator Award at the 2nd Universal Innovators Leadership Awards. In view of his contributions to research and development in the field of Computer Science, he has been featured on Yahoo News, Business Insider, WRDE Coast TV, and in newspapers such as The Arizona Republic and The Chronicle-Journal. He was also a nominee of the 2021 Forbes 30 under 30 list of Scientists.
Outside of his professional endeavors, he enjoys traveling, listening to music, and watching films during his leisure time. In the coming years, Mr. Thakur intends to continue in the field of academic research and remain active in teaching, training, and nurturing the next generation of aspiring researchers. As a further testament to his success, he has been featured in Who’s Who in America.
