Robert Irving Botto, PhD, FACS, Retired Research Consultant at Kior, Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in chemistry and consultancy.
Following in the footsteps of his father, who was a chemist, Dr. Botto pursued a formal education at the University at Buffalo, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in 1971. Matriculating in Cornell University, he subsequently received a Master of Science in 1973 and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1976. While pursuing his doctorate degree, he was hired by Exxon Research and Engineering Co. in 1975, where he worked in various technology positions until becoming head of analytical operations in 1987. Serving in that role until 1995, he also served Exxon as a research associate, as well as head of the analytical laboratories of Exxon Chemical Co., ExxomMobil Chemical and ExxonMobil Refining and Supply until retiring in 2010. From 2010 to 2014, he excelled as a research consultant for Kior, Inc.
Alongside his primary ventures, Dr. Botto has been an antiques dealer for Vintage Sounds since 1985. He previously maintained affiliation with the American Chemical Society, for whom he served as chairman of the Southwest regional meeting, chairman of the Southwest section and chairman of the Greater Houston section. He is a past president of the Houston Vintage Radio Association and past member of the Vintage Radio and Phonograph Society and the Society for Applied Spectroscopy. In 2011, Dr. Botto was elected a fellow of the American Chemical Society, who also honored him with the 1994 Southwest Regional Award and the 2015 Helen Free National ACS Award for Chemical Outreach.
In his spare time, Dr. Botto was a long distance runner for 30 years. Notably, he ran 100-mile races and obtained a 1,000-mile belt buckle, which is a rare accolade. He formerly contributed as a fundraiser for Relay for Life.
