Willie Williams Jr., PhD, Physical Scientist, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in physics.
As a child, Dr. Williams was always interested in how and why the world worked the way it did. Hoping to better understand nature and man-made devices, he sought to pursue a career in the sciences. After graduating from high school, he enrolled at Southern University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in 1970. During these his few years at college, Dr. Williams was immediately attracted to the field of physics after being enlightened to how it could offer a fundamental understanding of the laws and principals that were governing the universe. In 1972, he attained a Master’s degree from Iowa State College, remaining there for two more years to acquire a Doctor of Philosophy.
In 1974, Dr. Williams commenced his career as the chairman of the Department of Physics at Lincoln University. In the subsequent years, he worked his way through the university, taking on roles such as director of the pre-engineering program, associated professor of physics and director of the Early Alert Young Scholars Program. In 1992, Dr. Williams relocated to the Department of Defense in Washington, D.C. where he excelled as the manager of satellite sub-system acquisition before becoming the manager of enhanced mission operations in 1994. Later, from 1999 until 2008, he served as the manager of enterprise ground acquisition. As an active member of his industry, Dr. Williams maintains affiliation with a number of professional organizations. These include the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Mathematical Society and the American Association of Physics Teachers, among others. In the coming years, Dr. Williams is planning to retire and write a book. As a testament to his professional success, he is featured in multiple editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the East, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, and Who’s Who in the World.
