Melissa C. Martin, DABR, Certified Medical Physicist, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in medical physics.
Backed by a Bachelor of Science in engineering technology from Oklahoma State University, Ms. Martin decided to further her education at the University of California Los Angeles. In 1975, she earned a Master’s degree in medical physics, going on to become certified by the American Board of Radiology and the American Board of Medical Physics in radiological physics and oncology physics, respectively. In 1975, Ms. Martin began her career as an assistant radiological physicist and assistant radiation safety officer at the Hospital of the Good Samaritan in Los Angeles, California. She remained in the role until 1980, proceeding to work at the Memorial Medical Center in Long Beach, California before becoming a radiological physicist at St. Joseph Hospital in Orange, California in 1983. Ms. Martin excelled in this role until 1992.
Outside of her research endeavors, Ms. Martin found additional success as an adjunct instructor at California State University in 1994. In the years since then, she has offered her skills to several other esteemed institutions of learning, including the University of California Los Angeles Medical Center School of Radiologic Technology. Likewise, Ms. Martin is a distinguished author in her field. Her most recent book, “Radiation Shielding Design for Linear Accelerators,” which she co-authored, was published in July of 2020.
To remain abreast of her industry, Ms. Martin maintains affiliation with multiple professional organizations in her field. These include the American Association of Physicists in Medicine, the American College of Medical Physics and the American College of Radiology. Moreover, since 2015, she has served as the United State delegate to the ISO Standards Committee on Radiation Protection of the American National Standards Institute. A dedicated Christian, Ms. Martin was an AWANA youth program director for 33 years. As a testament to her success, she is featured in numerous editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the West, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the World and Who’s Who of American Women.
