Richard Rees, Product Development Manager at Bayer, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in biology and plant health.

At a young age, Dr. Rees spent time on an island off the coast of France where he dug potatoes and harvested cupflowers for the market garden in London. Along with growing up on a small farm, he became intrigued by agriculture and science. Dr. Rees went on to receive a Bachelor of Science in agricultural studies from the University of Nottingham and a Doctor of Philosophy in life sciences from Nottingham Trent University. He commenced his professional endeavors with AgrEvo USA Company and Aventis CropScience USA as a manager of research screening from 1995 to 1999 and as a manager of the Southern Field Research Station from 2000 to 2002. Returning to Europe, he was head of biology and chemical stimulant research in 2002 and 2003 and a global project manager from 2003 to 2005 for Bayer Crop Science GmbH in Frankfurt and Monheim, Germany, respectively.

Notably, since 2007, Dr. Rees has served as the product development manager of fungicides and plant health at Bayer Crop Science’s Environmental Science Division in North Carolina. Managing a team of 25 scientists, he is dedicated to finding solutions to issues such as vegetation and disease management. From 2005 to 2007, he was the company’s manager of projects and technology information and a global plant health coordinator. Dr. Rees is an author, contributor and patentee of numerous publications. He cites the highlight of his career was discovering dyriclonil and attributes his success to hard work and a passion for lifelong learning. Presently, Dr. Rees maintains affiliation with the Society of Chemical Industry, Royal Society of Biology, European Weed Research Society, Weed Science Society of America, Southern Weed Science Society and American Society of Agronomy. In five years’ time, he envisions himself retired but still offering his expertise on the consultant-level.
