John Andrew “Andy” May, Retired Petrophysicist and Writer at Andy May Petrophysicist LLC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in petrophysics.
Upon receiving a Bachelor of Science in geology from the University of Kansas in 1974, Mr. May delved into a 40-year long career as a petrophysicist studying physical and chemical rock properties and their interactions with fluids primarily in the oil and gas industry. He commenced his career as a senior geologist for Cities Service Oil Co. in 1974, going on to serve as a division geologist for Exxon from 1980 to 1985. He then spent the next two years as manager of exploration systems for Sci. Software-Intercomp and was a senior international petrophysicist for Kerr-McGee from 1988 to 2008. Mr. May went on to excel as a petrophysicist for Devon Energy from 2008 to 2014, Kinder-Morgan from 2014 to 2016 and Andy May Petrophysicist LLC from 2016 to 2020.
Since 2013, Mr. May has dedicated his efforts as a writer, including as an editor for www.wattsupwiththat.com. He is the author of “Climate Catastrophe! Science or Science Fiction?” from 2018, “Blood and Honor: The People of Bleeding Kansas” from 2019 and “Politics and Climate Change: A History” from 2020. Likewise, Mr. May wrote three petrophysical computer models and contributed to seven technical peer-reviewed and numerous articles on computer science, geology and petrophysics during his career. Reflecting on his career trajectory, he recalls mapping of Natuna D-Alpha Reef complex in the South China Sea, developing Environ and Calc numerical petrophysical models and discovering Bohai Bay field in Block 043 as highlights of his career. Notably, he received a Certificate of Merit from the AAPG for being an editor for Geobyte in 1993. To attest to his legacy, Mr. May is also listed in editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest and Who’s Who in the World. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling, golf and photography.
