Ahmed Fouad Abdel-Magid, PhD, Executive Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer of Therachem Research Medilab, LLC has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Organic Chemistry, Chemical Development Research, pharmaceutical research and higher education.

A native of Giza, Egypt, Dr. Abdel-Magid attended Cairo University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in 1969 and a Master of Science in 1973. During his graduate studies, he notably served as an instructor and assistant lecturer at his alma mater until immigrating to the United States in 1976. While living in the United States, he matriculated at Temple University, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he received a Doctor of Philosophy in organic chemistry in 1980. Subsequently, Dr. Abdel-Magid served as a postdoctoral research associate at the University of South Carolina, Columbia, South Carolina, from 1981 to 1982 before being hired by Smith Kline Beecham, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he was a postdoctoral scientist from 1983 to 1985. Shortly thereafter, he was an instructor and research associate at Drexel University, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as well as an adjunct professor of chemistry in their Department of Chemistry, remaining in the latter role from 1985 until 2006.

In the following stages of his career, Dr. Abdel-Magid served as a Senior Chemist in the Process Chemistry group of Wyeth Laboratories, in West Chester, PA (1986-1987). He then joined the chemical development Department of McNeil Pharmaceuticals (a Johnson & Johnson company) in Spring House, Pennsylvania, in 1987. The company changed its name in the following year to R.W. Johnson Pharmaceutical Research Institute and later to Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research & Development. During his tenure in these Johnson & Johnson companies, he served in myriad roles, including Senior Scientist of chemical development, Principal Scientist of chemical development and Research Fellow of chemical development between 1988 and 1997. In 1998, he was promoted to Senior Research Fellow of chemical development and remained in this position for the following decade. In 2009, he joined Therachem Research Medilab as Executive Vice President and chief scientific officer – a role in which he remains today. Dr. Abdel-Magid currently serves as a Chemistry Consultant for Venthera Inc., a BridgeBio Company (2018-present). He is a member of the American Chemical Society, the Division of Organic Chemistry of the American Chemical Society, the Philadelphia Section of the American Chemical Society, and the Philadelphia Organic Chemists’ Club.

Dr. Abdel-Magid is the author of 40 publications in various peer-reviewed journals, the inventor of 28 issued patents and two pending applications and editor of 9 books. He contributed 148 patent highlights to the ACS Medicinal Chemistry Letters and presented nearly a dozen invited lectures and 19 abstracts. He also organized over 100 symposia in national and international meetings. Dr. Abdel-Magid has received myriad accolades for his chemical research, including the 1994 Johnson & Johnson Philip Hofmann Research Award, the 2007 Philadelphia Organic Chemists’ Club Award and the 2013 American Chemical Society’s Philadelphia Section Award. He was also elected a fellow of the American Chemical Society in 2009 and was profiled in the 25th edition of Who’s Who in the East in 1994.
