Jeffrey A. Johnson, PhD, hydrogeologist at NewFields Environmental and Engineering LLC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in geology.
Dr. Johnson is an AIPG-certified geologist with more than four decades of expertise in academia and the petroleum industry. Since 2011, he has served as a hydrogeologist for NewFields Environmental and Engineering LLC, where his work focuses on helping energy companies characterize soil, sediment and groundwater impacted by the extraction process. Likewise, Dr. Johnson strives to develop remediation processes for existing contamination.
Dr. Johnson holds a Bachelor of Science in geology from Texas Christian University and continued his education at the University of California Berkeley, where he earned a Master of Science in geology in 1980 and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1987. While completing his doctoral studies, Dr. Johnson gained a foothold in the petroleum industry despite initially working to remain active in academia.
Dr. Johnson graduated into a challenging job market and broadened his career search, through which he found work in the burgeoning field of environmental engineering. Having written his dissertation on groundwater, he found his niche working on contamination, and maintained involvement in related positions for a number of years. Throughout the course of his career, Dr. Johnson has worked alongside the U.S. Research Corps of Engineers and is responsible for the discovery of a new type of sediment with the potential to mitigate the environmental impacts of oil contamination. He has begun to publish his findings, and aspires to release more complete documentation within the next five years. He has been honored by the ASTM for his research and work in developing an environmental guidance program.
As an innovator in his field, Dr. Johnson remains affiliated with the American Petroleum Institute, the Remediation Technologies Development Forum, the American Institute of Professional Geologists and the American Society for Testing and Materials. Eminently qualified, he is a registered professional geologist in four states. He has lectured at universities across the United States and delivered presentations to students in various kindergarten through grade 12 schools. Dr. Johnson credits his success on hard work, a focus on problem-solving and a commitment to doing the best that he can at all times. In his leisure time, he enjoys hiking, playing golf and spending time outdoors.
