Dr. Kamnasaran is a well-accomplished Canadian Medical Geneticist, Oncologist, Medical Scientist, Technology Innovator and Business Executive, currently focusing on his career as the Chief Executive Officer, President, and Founder of the CEN4GEN Institute for Genomics and Molecular Diagnostics and CEN4GEN Genome Services Corporation. An alumni of the University of Alberta (Canada), he graduated with distinction with a Bachelor’s Degree in Genetics, and was awarded his Doctorate in Medical Genetics, with distinction. He holds additional postgraduate certificates in Bioinformatics from the University of British Columbia (Canada), and Mechanisms of Neural Differentiation and Brain Tumors from the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (USA). After completing a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Neuro-oncology at the Hospital for Sick Children, University Health Network and University of Toronto (Canada), Dr. Kamnasaran was recruited to join the academic faculty of professors in the Department of Pediatrics of Laval University (Canada), where he was also an academic Post-Graduate student supervisor. He also worked concurrently as a Medical Scientist for Quebec’s CHUQ (Canada) and as a Director of his high complexity laboratory which undertook leading-edge research in the disciplines of Stem Cell Biology, Oncology, Neuroscience, Pharmaceutical science and Medical genetics.
Dr. Kamnasaran is best-known for research innovations that include: the cloning and identification of a gene that causes schizophrenia, the use of molecular cytogenetic methods to study patients with chromosome aberrations, the discovery and characterization of new cancer genetic biomarkers, the development of a novel stem-cell based model for cancer, and the discovery of new drugs for the treatment of cancer, to name a few. CEN4GEN is the culmination of more than 20 years of professional experience of Dr. Kamnasaran. CEN4GEN strives to continue his research with potential applications across sectors, and to offer patients and families new treatments as well as diagnostic, carrier and predisposition testing options for common, rare as well as serious diseases.
