William E. Ebomoyi, PhD, Postdoctorate (NIH), Fellow (IOMC), Professor of Epidemiological Science at Chicago State University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in public health.
Born in Nigeria, Dr. Ebomoyi was inspired by his mother, who died when he was young and strongly believed in his intellectual abilities. After relocating to the United States in 1971, he enrolled at Western Illinois University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in pre-medicine and philosophy and a Master of Science in community health sciences in 1975 and 1976, respectively. He transferred to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he acquired a Doctor of Philosophy in public health and statistics in 1981. Additional educational pursuits to Dr. Ebomoyi’s credit include an internship at the Tulane University School of Medicine and a residency at the Federal Ministry of Health in Lagos, Nigeria. He later received a post-doctoral certificate in epidemiological science from the U.S. Public Health Service National Institutes of Health in 1990.
Today, Dr. Ebomoyi is renowned as a professor of epidemiological science and chairman of the Department of Health Studies at Chicago State University (CSU), roles he commenced in 2006 and again in 2017. Prior, he served the University of Northern Colorado as an associated and full professor from 1996 to 2006 and Concordia University as a faculty member of physics, chemistry and biology from 1996 to 1997. In addition, Dr. Ebomoyi offered his expertise to the Tulane Medical Center and Tulane Sickle Cell Center of Southern Louisiana, Tufts University, Boston Medical Center and Ridgeway Academy, as well as the University of Ilorin and Federal Ministry of Health Onikan Health Center in Nigeria.
As an expert in his field, Dr. Ebomoyi has also contributed as a consultant in international health for the American Public Health Association, the Appeal for Charities and Good Will Inc., the World Bank, the Weld County Department of Public Health, and the Colorado Public Health Association. Furthermore, he served under Mayor Jerry Wones as an air quality commissioner for the City of Greeley, Colorado, and as an advisory board vice-chairperson of air quality and natural resources. Presently, Dr. Ebomoyi maintains affiliation with the Alliance for Health (AccentCare), American Institute for Health Promotion, The Planetary Society, Legacy International Inc., New England Regional Genetics Group, Federation of American Scientists and Greeley Writers Club.
In his illustrious career, Dr. Ebomoyi was the recipient of Eta Sigma Gamma Service Awards for HIV Research and was named Favorite Professor by Mortar Board, Inc. in 2004. Listed as International Scientist of the Year by the International Biographical Center in 2002, he also received a Mayoral Dedication Award from the Air Quality and Natural Resources Commission from 1999 to 2002 and was a leadership fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 1990.
