John V. Mitsios, PhD, a Senior Clinical Consultant at Siemens Healthcare GmbH, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of clinical chemistry.
Well versed in clinical chemistry, Dr. Mitsios lends more than two decades of industry experience to his role as a senior consultant on behalf of Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics Inc., where he has worked since 2019. In this capacity, he is responsible for answering scientific questions regarding to hemostasis, particularly as it relates to pharmaceutical treatments for such diseases as heparin-induced thrombocytopenia. Previously active as the assistant director of special coagulation at BioReference Laboratories from 2016 until 2019, Dr. Mitsios initially served in academia as a teaching assistant in the department of chemistry at the University of Ioannina from 2000 until 2007, and as an assistant professor of pathology and laboratory medicine at the Weill Cornell Medical College of New York Presbyterian Hospital between 2014 and 2016, where he also maintained involvement as the assistant director of their central laboratory.
Dr. Mitsios first sought an education at Michigan State University, from which he earned a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry, with honors, in 1997. Following this accomplishment, he studied chemistry and biochemistry at the University of Ioannina, where he received a Master of Science and a Doctor of Philosophy in 2002 and 2006, respectively. Dr. Mitsios subsequently undertook postdoctoral fellowships at the University of California San Diego and the Washington University School of Medicine.
Well regarded for his scholarly output, Dr. Mitsios has authored and contributed numerous peer-reviewed manuscripts, reviews and books on behalf of his field. Likewise, he has delivered a number of presentations and invited talks before various industry conferences and symposia. To commemorate his various accomplishments, Dr. Mitsios was bestowed with an Outstanding Speaker Award from the American Association for Clinical Chemistry in 2014, a Young Investigator Award from the Sixth Annual Conference on Mass Spectrometry from Mass Spectrometry & Advances in the Clinical Lab, a nonprofit scientific association, and a Richard Marshall Education Award from the American Association for Clinical Chemistry, among other accolades to his credit.
