Title: Clinical Laboratory Scientist
Company: The Miriam Hospital
Location: Providence, Rhode Island, United States
Jacob Couto, Clinical Laboratory Scientist at The Miriam Hospital, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in medical laboratory administration.
Mr. Couto earned a bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in 2020. He also attained certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology in 2020. With The Miriam Hospital in Providence, a private, not-for-profit hospital that is a major teaching affiliate of the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, Mr. Couto has provided superior service as a pathology laboratory assistant from 2017 to 2019 and as a clinical laboratory scientist from 2019 to the present. In this capacity, he is responsible for performing scientific testing on samples and reporting results to physicians. As a phlebotomist, he is tasked with drawing blood from patients or donors for use in testing.
Mr. Couto attributes his success to his family and to his faith in God as he was raised as a devout Catholic. He became involved in his profession because of his interest in medicine. His primary goal always been was to use his medical knowledge and grow professionally so that he could be a servant to the medical community. Additionally, he aspires to alleviate the suffering of the people in the community he serves.
In the coming years, Mr. Couto’s plan is to become a physician. His applications go out in April of 2022 and if he is accepted as a physician assistant, he will matriculate into a 28-month program. Once he is accepted, he will go through the rigorous academic and clinical training of the physician assistants program and eventually pursue his medical degree. In the short term, he hopes to obtain his physical assistant’s license, work at a larger hospital, and relocate to Massachusetts to be closer to his family and, hopefully, to start his own family by that time.
