Tianhua Niu, Research Assistant Professor at Tulane University School of Medicine, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in medical research and instruction.

Since 2017, Dr. Niu has excelled as a research assistant professor with the Tulane University School of Medicine, where his areas of expertise include researching elucidating molecular and genetic mechanisms for a variety of human complex diseases encompassing cardiovascular disorder (CVD), asthma and airway hyperresponsiveness, osteoporosis and bone mineral density, type 2 diabetes and obesity, nicotine dependence, reproductive health and several types of cancer.

After obtaining a Doctor of Science in Biological Sciences from Harvard University in 1998, Dr. Niu provided superior service as an assistant professor of genetics and epidemiology from 2004 to 2005 and assistant professor of epidemiology from 2005 to 2008 from the Harvard School of Public Health. He also prospered as an assistant professor of medicine with Harvard Medical School from 2002 to 2008, assistant professor with the department of psychiatry and neurobehavioral sciences at the University of Virginia School of Medicine from 2008 to 2012, assistant professor with the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine from 2012 to 2014 and clinical assistant professor with the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine from 2014 to 2017. 

As an instructor with Tulane, Dr. Niu teaches bioinformatics, a subdiscipline of biology and computer science concerned with the acquisition, storage, analysis, and dissemination of biological data, most often DNA and amino acid sequences. In addition he is collaborating with colleagues as biostatistician or bioinformatician performing data analysis and bioinformatics analysis.

Dr. Niu became a professor and researcher to find new therapeutics to treat human diseases such as cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, diabetes, and cancer. As a career highlight, he takes pride in having been an associate editor for Frontiers in Psychiatry and an editorial board member for International Journal of Molecular Sciences. 

In coming years, Dr. Niu intends to continue his teaching endeavors in higher educational institutions, conduct state-of-the-art scientific research and contribute to bioinformatics research. He would like to write a book in his research fields and to become a more accomplished scientist. Through the benefits of science and medicine, he could help people to live a healthier life, to gain greater knowledge of new scientific and technological advances in the modern world, and to develop effective problem-solving skills.
