Following coursework in the winter semester abroad in 2016 at Deakin University, Melbourne, Australia, Ms. Marks obtained a Bachelor of Engineering in biomedical engineering in 2017 with a minor in music from Stony Brook University and followed with a Master of Science in biology in 2019 from New York University. Currently, she is pursuing a PhD in molecular, cellular and developmental biology from the City College of New York Graduate Center.
Ms. Marks provided superior service as an undergraduate research assistant from 2013 to 2016 with Brookhaven National Laboratory, Mount Sinai Health System and Stony Brook University, during which she evaluated the effectiveness of drugs to protein interactions, assisted in the recruitment of new patients to a breast cancer clinical trial looking at diabetes in breast cancer and studied breast cancer treatments.
Ms. Marks subsequently served as a graduate research assistant from 2017 to 2019 with the radiology department with NYU Langone Hospitals during which she performed MRI imaging analysis of breast cancer lesions in patients and researched the connection between fatty acids and breast tumor formation. She has found success as a graduate research assistant and cancer researcher with City College of New York (CCNY) from 2020 to the present.
In 2017, Ms. Marks created the nonprofit organization Belt Buddies to create cushioned seatbelt covers that relieve pain caused by regular seat belts for women who had underwent mastectomies after breast cancer diagnoses. In addition, she has served as a volunteer caregiver with New York Breast Reconstruction Associates from 2011 to the present and a camp counselor and social skills tutor with Camp Helen Keller and Helen Keller Services for the Blind from 2011 to 2012. Ms. Marks was a finalist in the Startup Business Competition at Stony Brook University in 2017 and a representative of women scientists and disabled students on the Dean of Students Inclusion and Diversity Plan Advisory Council and student ambassador for the United States government in the People to People international student travel program.

Ms. Marks attributes her success to her passion and being inspired by her mother overcoming cancer. She is motivated to keep going by the progression of science and medicine through knowledge and research. Ms. Marks is most proud of being involved in an NIH fellowship program called G-Rise, which helps graduate students coming from under-represented groups of scientists. She hopes to complete her PhD, start her post-doctorate studies and have enough publications on her way to becoming a tenured researcher.
